About Diann

What? You sold everything and you are traveling the world?

But, wait.  An explanation is in order.

Hello!

And, thank you so much for coming to my website.

Let me begin by sharing my favorite, inspirational travel quote:

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

I served 25 years in higher education, first as an instructor of writing and ultimately college president. When I retired, I dabbled in tennis, music, and writing. Yet, my dream was to travel and write books. In 2015, my fantasy was realized.

I sold my house, my car, and all my possessions, except for a tennis racket and my trusty Baby Taylor guitar, and began my odyssey in Portugal.

For four years, I explored 46 countries in 5 continents and met incredible people who became great friends.

With the world as my muse, I wrote my first novel, “Just A Girl.” It was ranked “sixth best coming-of-age fiction in 2017” by Amazon.

My friends, in America and abroad, urged me to write my nonfiction book, “The Essential Guide of a Life of Travel: the ABC’s International Travel.”

And now? I’m not finished traveling. It’s in my DNA. My heart winces and my soul calls out to me to continue my adventures.

Unfortunately, it is the age of Covid19.

What better time to focus on writing?

I recently finished my third book. “Claim Denied” is an electrifying international cyber-espionage thriller set in Prishtina, Kosovo. The plot and characters came to me from my experiences as a writing consultant at the American University of Kosovo. Publication date: late fall, 2020.

At the time of this writing, I am in Florida writing a fourth book. A small-town mystery novel packed with captivating and quirky characters, it’s set in a fictional community on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. This imaginary town is reminiscent of a quaint village I fell in love with and visited many times in early 2000. Untitled, release date: fall, 2021.

I’m on hiatus from my travels although I am planning an escape to North Carolina in October 2020 with lovely new friends. We will visit a prolific fellow author and his wife, talk about writing, drink wine, and take in the spectacular fall scenery.

I hope you enjoy my website. Please write to me and let me know what you think. Tell me about your travels and your writing or your desire to write. I'd love to hear from you.

“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”      – Oliver Wendell Holmes
